Woods set to return at Hero World Challenge event

14-time major champion Tiger Woods is set to make his competitive return to golf at the Hero World Challenge event in the Bahamas this week.

Woods, who has been out of action for the past nine months and has had four back operations in the last three years, is returning for the event which he annually hosts.

The Hero World Challenge is an 18-man unofficial money event on the PGA Tour, featuring the world’s top golfers.

Hideki Matsuyama beat Sweden’s Henrik Stenson to the title in last year’s event, while previous winners include the likes of Jordan Spieth, Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson, Vijay Singh and five-time winner Woods.

Tour to Dubai winner Tommy Fleetwood will be full of confidence after his recent success on the European Tour, whilst Justin Rose recorded back-to-back victories last month and arrives in good form.

World number one Dustin Johnson will be a force to be reckoned with, while PGA Championship victor Justin Thomas has just had the year of his golfing life.

Former winners Matsuyama and Spieth will also be amongst the contenders, but all eyes will be on Woods and his die-hard fans will still have hopes that the 41-year-old can get back to his former self.
