US Open Preview 2017
This year’s US Open will take place at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin between the 15th and 18th of June. Players will be battling for a $12 million prize fund, with the champion receiving $2.16 million. More than 35,000 spectators are expected to attend each day.
Dustin Johnson will be trying to retain the title after taking home the prize last year at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, PA, and this year he remains favourite to win.
Erin Hills is being heralded as a world-class course which will give both players and viewers a unique experience. The course will play as a par-72 at 7,283, and will be the first time the U.S. Open will be played in the state of Wisconsin. Running over 652 acres of land in the Kettle Moraine region of Wisconsin, Erin Hills offers some hilly terrain, with the difference between the highest and lowest points of the course being 54 feet, or in layman’s terms, the size of a five-story building!
In terms of the most challenging hole players can expect to face on the fairway, Erin Hills believe that “with a variety of tees ranging from 135 to 165 yards, complete exposure to the wind, a 26-foot drop in elevation, and some of the course’s most punishing bunkers surrounding the green” the 9th hole could potentially be the most fascinating to watch.
