The 30-year-old pipped Sweden’s Alex Noren on the sixth hole of an enthralling play-off to claim his first PGA Tour win in almost two years.
The play-off had been suspended on Sunday after five holes because the light was too bad for players to carry on, with Ryan Palmer eliminated after only making par at the first play-off hole.
Play resumed on Monday and a birdie gave Day his first title since the 2016 Players Championship, to give the former PGA Championship winner hope that he can return to the top of the world rankings.
Elsewhere JB Holmes finished one shot behind the trio who contested the play-off, whilst Keegan Bradley was two shots behind with Tony Finau and Charles Howell III one shot further back.
Meanwhile 14-time major winner Tiger Woods was seven shots off the leaders, as he continued his comeback after being sidelined with injury for most of the last 12 months.
Woods carded rounds of 72, 71, 70 and 72 in a competent display to suggest there is hope that he an return to somewhere near his former self.
